Mother Warming Therapy

Mother Warming is a technique that utilizes Moxa, derived from Mugwort, to warm and stimulate acupuncture points through a treatment called Moxibustion. It improves circulation to relieve pain, boosts energy, and is used to warm specific parts of the body. For postpartum care, it is focused on the abdomen and is used to help warm the channels and support breastfeeding.

Best performed four days post birth as long as you are not suffering from excessive sweating or experiencing a fever as moxa can exacerbate these symptoms.

Run the Moxa stick between the bellybutton and the pubic bone for 5 – 10mins or until you feel warm.

If a partner or another person is available to assist, repeat along the spine, from the bottom of the sacrum to the small of the back, mirroring the front line.

Note that moxa is safe to perform after a c-section as long as the scar is not red or emitting discharge.

Shao Ze is located on the outside edge of the little finger, by the top corner of the nail. Moxa this point for 5 – 10 mins once a day when needed. This point will increase the blood flow, if lactation is stagnated on the left you would moxa the left hand and vice versa.

If you have any concerns, always consult your health practitioner before performing moxibustion.
