Why did you start your practice ? / What drew you to do this work?

I first discovered naturopathy through my own health concerns when a naturopath helped me to resolve a recurring respiratory illness. I discovered the importance of being heard, and exploring the root cause. Following my experience in childcare working closely with mothers and children, I chose to focus my studies on fertility, women’s reproductive health and children’s health conditions.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?

My favourite aspect of naturopathy is herbal manufacturing. I love creating personalised herbal tinctures, tea blends, herbal creams and flower essence remedies for my clients following consultation.

What is the most memorable thing you can tell someone about your job?

Seeing someone go from feeling depleted to thriving is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. A memorable moment is supporting women throughout their pregnancy with targeted nutrition and herbal support, then receiving the news they have delivered a healthy baby and are on the path to recovery.

Based on your area of expertise, what can you share with our followers around postpartum care?

Key considerations for postpartum care from a naturopathic perspective include restoring nutrient depletion following pregnancy and labour, milk production and feeding, sleep and nervous system support.

Food considerations include high protein and nutrient dense snacks, frequent eating for blood glucose balance, warm slow cooked foods, and higher fat foods for the nervous system and breastmilk production. Consider a meal train for additional support.

Herbal considerations might include adaptogenic and nervine herbs for emotional and sleep support, galactagogues for lactation support and nutritive herbs for energy restoration and mineral repletion.

Consider: actionable tips / practices, educational piece, insights into your area of expertise.

Actionable tips: Consider a pathology check-in around 6 weeks postpartum to assess general blood chemistry, thyroid function, blood glucose, inflammation markers, stress response, vitamin and mineral status. Review any markers found out of optimal range around 6 and 12 months postpartum.
