"If I was to change anything, it would be that I would have educated myself about postpartum recovery - this is something I am aiming to do for our second child."

I’m a mama of a very cheeky 2.5yo and 25w pregnant with bub #2. I work in commercial sales but love to spend time with my family, especially at the beach.

What was your favourite thing about the newborn phase?

The cuddles, the smell, and not having to do anything other than look at my perfect baby all day and night.

What did you find challenging about being a new mother?

When our son was born it was the beginning of the pandemic so it felt quite isolating not being about to see family and friends, not feeling like I was able to create a “village”.

How were you supported during your postpartum period and what would you change if you could go back in time?

My husband was incredible support, and due to the timing of our son’s arrival also had 4 months off work to help our new family of 3 bond together. If I was to change anything, it would be that I would have educated myself about postpartum recovery - this is something I am aiming to do for our second child.

"Rest. I know the old saying “sleep when the baby sleeps” but I managed to do that most of the time. The housework can always wait."

List your top 3 essentials for a new mother

  1. For me, I made sure I would go outside and get some vitamin d and fresh air daily as I felt it gave me energy.
  2. Stock that freezer mama! No one wants to be cooking up a storm when you’re tired and tending to a new baby.
  3. Rest. I know the old saying “sleep when the baby sleeps” but I managed to do that most of the time. The housework can always wait.
